I didn't care much for this tour. I'm not exactly sure what the point of it was. It's called a "Christmas Lights Tour", but to my knowledge, I was the only one looking at them. Seemed like everyone else was preoccupied with the bars and restaurants that were at the locations we visited. True, it was fiendishly frigid, so I can understand why, but that basically meant it became a pub crawl. I don't drink and I wasn't expecting to spend any money on this tour, so even with food and mocktails being available, I wasn't enamored with the locations.
There were some good points though. The lights and decorations at Campus Martius were quite impressive, although not so much at Beacon Hill. Hopcat for the after party wasn't a bad choice, but its distance from St. Mary's at that frigid temperature did make it less than ideal. I did have a good mocktail there and there was some nice conversation.
However, my overall opinion of the experience does lean more negative. I really don't see how this was any better or preferential to a normal YCP Christmas party. Everything we did on this tour could have been done at any bar or social club in Metro Detroit. Perhaps if it wasn't so cold outside, it would've been more enjoyable. Further, I didn't really fit on the bus, and although the addition of a second bus meant we could spread out more, that seemed to separate the party into two smaller parties that hardly mixed together.
I wouldn't go again and wouldn't necessarily recommend it to a friend.
